The University of Liverpool is a member of the Russell Group of leading UK Universities. For more than 100 years, Liverpool has had an international reputation in infection research, tropical medicine and global health. The University of Liverpool’s Institute of Infection and Global Health, established in 2010 ,brings together leading medical, veterinary and basic science researchers from across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. In 2020, it was expanded to become the Institute of Infection, Veterinary & Ecological Sciences. It compliments other strengths in Liverpool, including the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), the Centre of Excellence in Infectious Diseases Research, the NIHR HPRU in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections, The Wolfson Centre for Personalised Medicine, the and the Wellcome Trust Tropical Centre with its associated PhD programme. We also enjoy close and active collaboration with NHS colleagues through the Liverpool Health Partners Academic Health Science System.
The new Institute of Infection, Veterinary & Ecological Sciences (IVES) comprises 7 academic departments: Evolution, Ecology & Behaviour, Infection & Microbiome and Clinical Infection, Microbiology & Immunology. Its School of Veterinary Science comprises Veterinary Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology, Small Animal Clinical Science, Equine Clinical Science, and Livestock & One Health.
The Institute will have 39 professors, 75 Readers and Senior Lecturers, and will be one of four research-connected teaching Institutes within the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences at University of Liverpool, and will have a responsibility to deliver undergraduate teaching in Schools within the Institutes of Systems, Molecular & Integrative Biology and Life Course & Medical Sciences. Clinical and non-clinical scientists are all working to further the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of today’s prevalent and emerging infectious diseases.
The University of Liverpool will contribute to sub-study leadership, clinical recruitment, product development and evaluation, cost-effectiveness analysis, and pilot demonstration of the prototype product.
The University of Liverpool has expertise in: 1) all tasks related to clinical studies preparation, design, regulatory, management and performance as well as recruitment of patients when necessary; 2) on genomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics and 3) whole hospital implementation of deterioration monitoring systems.
