The Erasmus MC-Sophia Children’s Hospital (Prof HA Moll) is co-lead for the clinical studies of febrile children at the Emergency department (ED) (WP1). We will coordinate the clinical and laboratory data collection for these children. Co-investigator is C Vermont, paediatric infectious disease specialist. The department of general paediatrics has extensive experience in clinical epidemiology and decision making in febrile children. We analyse the management of febrile children in the MOFICHE (Management and Outcome of Fever in Children in Europe) study and have a role in the analyses of the clinical data of DIAMONDS. Furthermore, we participate in WP7 comparative health service evaluation & cost-effectiveness analysis.
Our research focuses on decision making in Paediatric Emergency Care e.g. studies on triage, early identification of serious infections, biomarkers and antibiotic treatment in the febrile child. We participate in several research consortia: PEMNED (Paediatric Emergency Medicine-the Netherlands), European MTS group (Manchester Triage group), EUSEM-REPEM (Paediatric emergency medicine research) and PERFORM (Personalised Risk assessment in Febrile illness to Optimise Real-life Management across the European Union). Our team published more than 60 papers on decision making in emergency care in the last 10 years.
