Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital is the largest paediatric hospital and research center in Europe with connections to leading international centres in the sector. It is also accredited as an Academic Hospital by Joint Commission International, a non-governmental, non-profit organisation that has been dedicated to improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare for over 75 years.
The Academic Department of Pediatrics (DPUO) is the Academic Department of Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital and it includes the School of Paediatric of Tor Vergata University of Rome. It is chaired by Prof Paolo Rossi.
DPUO is aimed to develop assistance, teaching, and research activities in the pediatric field. DPUO includes 12 Units which represent, besides the general paediatrics, relevant branches of specialised paediatrics. It is characterised by a combination of teaching, research and assistance creating a model of translational Pediatrics.
All the research staff of the Department of Immune and Infectious Diseases of Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital are involved in WP1 of Diamonds and will contribute to the recruitment of a specific category of patients as primary and secondary immunodeficiency.
The immunodiagnostics is provided by dedicated immunological laboratories with accessibility to multiparameter immunometrics including multicolour flow cytometry. These laboratories are integrated with high level Immunology laboratories that can provide essentially all state-of-the-art research technologies. The teams also have access to Next Generation Sequencing, based on custom-made panels, including known, as well as candidate new genes, and on whole exome sequencing. The Unit of Microbiology allows a precocious diagnosis using tests based on bacterial and fungal DNA detection with the genetic analysis of mechanism of resistance.
